The concept of transnationalism suggests a weakening of the control a nation-state has over its borders, inhabitants, and territory. The Master program in Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State consists of a major with 90 ECTS credits and a minor with 30 ECTS credits. The major can be combined with any minor subject taught in a sufficient scope at the University of Bern, with the exception of Social Anthropology and Anthropology of Transnationalism and the State . Finally, some major themes are identified that have emerged around the anthropological study of transnationalism and diaspora. They include homeland and place‐making, citizenship and political subjectivity, refugees and asylum‐seekers, the traveling suitcase trade, transnational kinship, and transnational religion and religious diasporas.
